How We Work
The path to a better future
At Oak Therapies, we like to keep things simple and supportive. Every journey starts with a conversation, and from there, we work together to build a plan that feels right for you or your organisation. Whether you’re a parent looking for support, a school seeking assessments, or an individual exploring therapy, our process is designed to be clear, collaborative, and completely centred around your needs.
Initial contact and consultation
It all begins with an initial conversation. This is a relaxed, no-pressure chat where we listen to what’s been happening, answer any questions, and get a sense of what support you’re looking for. From here, we can decide together what the next steps should be — whether that’s a one-off assessment, ongoing therapy sessions, or something more bespoke.
Assessment
Once we’ve agreed on the best approach, one of our qualified therapists will carry out an assessment. This might involve observation in different environments, completing activities, and speaking with those who know the person best. The goal is to build a clear picture of strengths, challenges, and the support that will make the biggest difference.
Report & recommendations
After the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed but easy-to-understand report. This includes findings, practical recommendations, and strategies that can be used straight away at home, in school, or in the community. If needed, this report can also support the EHCP process or help guide wider support teams.
Therapy Sessions
If therapy is recommended, we’ll create a plan tailored to the individual or family. Sessions may take place in our peaceful outdoor spaces, in schools, or even at home — wherever feels most comfortable. Our therapists use a range of approaches, from sensory and equine therapy to creative and nature-based interventions, always focusing on building confidence, engagement, and wellbeing.
Ongoing support & review
We stay connected throughout the journey. Progress is reviewed regularly to celebrate achievements and adjust support as needed. For families, this often includes ongoing guidance for parents and carers, help communicating with schools, and strategies to keep things working smoothly at home
Outcomes & Growth
Every step is about creating meaningful, lasting change. Whether it’s improved confidence, better emotional regulation, or stronger relationships, we want everyone we work with to leave feeling empowered and supported — ready to thrive well beyond Oak Therapies.
